New York Doubleday & Co 1963 First Printing Cloth Fine Very Good
First Printing. A handsome and fine copy in an unclipped ($3.50) and very good dustjacket. This copy is signed by the author on the front free endpaper--signed without any inscription. From the author of "The Exorcist"--this is one of his early works--a story about a Jewish U2 pilot who crash lands in Arabic territory. A hilarious cold war adventure of international diplomacy--and a far cry from the day when Blatty would write the "Exorcist" a terrifying novel that gripped the entire USA population when it was released as a movie and made pea soup a scary prop. A very collectable copy. Only mild age toning to the page edges and one little blip on the front board--hardly noticeable. Sapphira and the Slave Girl, Cather, Willa
17 Cather, Willa Sapphira and the Slave Girl
New York Knopf 1940 First Edition Cloth Fine Very Good
First Printing 1940. From the collection of M. B. Goldstone-with his custom gold plate lightly affixed on the front pastedown. A fine copy in a very good unclipped dustjacket. A little dustiness to the page edges and cloth spine--but was protected by the dustjacket over the years to practically eliminate the usual bleaching of the spine that is normal for this title. A clean and tight copy otherwise. The dustjacket is complete except for a minor amount of chipping to the head and heel of the spine. Medium age toning to the spine--the normal darkening at the spine and back DJ--but not much on the back cover. Otherwise the front jacket cover is nice. Goldstone and his brother (who was Steinbeck's bibliographer) were noted collectors--and recently their collection has come on the market, with some titles setting records at auction.
