Cruikshank's Illustrations of Smollett, Fielding & Goldsmith, Cruikshank, George
1 Cruikshank, George Cruikshank's Illustrations of Smollett, Fielding & Goldsmith
London Charles Tilt 1832 First Edition Hardcover-Leather Very Good No Jacket Cruikshank
Patterned Burgundy cloth boards with darker burgundy leather strip on spine with gold lettering and decorations. Gold gilt page edges all around. 12mo. Illustrations of Smollett, Fielding, and Goldsmith--in a series of 41 plates designed and engraved by George Cruikshank-famed illustrator of Dickens. Each plate is accompanied by descriptive extracts--fully explaining the subject. Cruikshank, even at the time of this publication, had his many loyal fans and collectors--of which many did not want to purchase Roscoe's complete Library of 10 volumes in order to obtain the engravings--so this book containing all of the engravings solved the problem. 82 pp with 6 pp of ads at rear. Slight edgewear to the spine and tips--although lettering is still quite bright. Tight and clean interior. Previous owner clean bookplate (small) on the front pastedown.
