First Printing 1957. An outstanding copy of Terkel's first book in fine unblemished condition in an unclipped and fine dustjacket. Inscribed and signed by the author on the title page "Take it Easy...Studs Terkel". Beautiful red cloth boards with decorative depicting of jazz musicians in black on front board and black title on spine. 215 pp. Stated "First Printing" on the copyright page. The barest of age toning to the boards (not enough really to even mention) and one professionally repaired 1'4" closed end tear to the head of the spine---now not noticeable. Original $3.00 price on flap. Terkel was a Chicago attorney who became bored with the law, and soon found out he had a passion for writing about people and his hometown--and about Jazz. Includes 13 chapters about great jazz musicians from Joe Oliver to Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong. Complete with a discography and index. Many great illustrations by Robert Galster including pastedowns and endpapers. From a fairly recent auction of modern firsts on the West Coast.
