From the recently auctioned collection of Adrian Homer Goldstone (Steinbeck's bibliographer)--with the auction tag laid in. A superb copy in light grey cloth with gilt decorations and lettering--including a stamped cameo in oval with a pink background and an ivory portrait of a woman in relief. Illustrated by Merrill with frontispiece and tissue guard and several others dispersed throughout the book. Solid gilt top edge. 233 uncut pages. Enclosed in a navy blue foldover slipcase. A colonial romance with an dedication to William Dean Howells. Extraordinary fine condition.
