Stevenson, Robert Louis Prayers London Chatto & Windus 1910 First Edition Goatskin Very Good No Jacket "When he was happy he felt impelled to offer thanks for that undeserved joy"---Mrs. Stevenson in the opening introduction--talking about R.L.S. From the recent Bonham's and Butterfield's auction of the M.B. Goldstone collection. With the Goldstone gold custom bookplate attached to the front pastedown. Fifth Impression so stated on the copyright page. An unusual copy of this title, as it does not contain the Alberto Sangorski illustrations found in earlier copies. Fifth impression published same year as first impression. Goatskin morocco leather with gilt decorations to front board. There are many different variations on the covering used, but rare to find this wonderful little prayer book without the Sangorski decorations. Edgewear to the spine and corners. Loosening to the front hinge. Original silk ribbon is still included--although no longer attached to the spine. Would be a treasure rebound. M. B. Goldstone's personal copy. Price:

Stevenson, Robert Louis The Wrong Box New York Scribner's 1889 First American Printing Cloth Very Good No Jacket Issued First American Printing. From the collection of M. B. Goldstone---with his penciled signature to the front pastedown and "1st edition" notations also in pencil. This being of the olive green variant cover with yellow paper label to upper front board--with black lettering. Gilt lettering to the spine. At least two variants are known with no one color taking first issue rights above the other. Co-authored by Stevenson's son-in-law Lloyd Osbourne. One of the original fictionalized detective stories--and a good one with a well thought out plot. A very good copy with some dustiness to the page edges, mild edgewear at the extremeties (mostly head and heel of the spine and corners). The gilt lettering to the spine is about half way faded. 244 pp and 4 pp adv. This copy has Scribner's original "patch" of newpaper clipping attached to the bottom center of the front board--which most buyers took to be a defect and tried to peel off. The story centers around an insurance scheme where the last surviving members are guaranteed a fortune--and two brothers are scheming to be the one who inherits the fortune. Price:
