Sweet Thursday (1st Printing), Steinbeck, John
1 Steinbeck, John Sweet Thursday (1st Printing)
New York Viking Press 1954 First Printing Cloth Fine Very Good
First Edition/First Printing 1954. From the recently auctioned collection of M. B. Goldstone--a noted collector whose brother, Adrian (Homer)--was Steinbeck's bibliographer. A superb and near fine copy in an unclipped ($3.50) and near fine dustjacket. Light overall uniform age toning only. The dustjacket has some very slight chipping to the head and heel of the spine and a one inch closed end professionally repaired tear to the bottom of the front board--(very unnoticeable). First print copy with "June 1954" and a full photo of the author on the rear panel without ads. A truly handsome collectible copy. Clean and square, unmarked and with a bright dustjacket--Goldstone's penciled signature to the front free endpaper. More digital photos available upon request.

THE FORGOTTEN VILLAGE, STEINBECK, JOHN
2 STEINBECK, JOHN THE FORGOTTEN VILLAGE
NEW YORK VIKING 1941 Decorative Cloth Very Good Very Good
First Edition 1941. A very handsome copy in a very good dustjacket. Cream colored cloth with green lettering and decorations. There is a fine pictorial decoration of a Mexican farm worker at work on the front board. Inside pastedowns are stained a little darker with the previous owner's name on the front pastedown and rear pastedown. Exterior is only soiled slightly. Dustjacket has minor edgewear with some chipping to the spine top and bottom as expected. Two small closed end repaired tears to top rear of D/J. Mildly sunned on back D/J---otherwise very nice copy. 2nd printing before publication stated on copyright page. An unusual book for Steinbeck in that it is not fiction--he is telling the story of the coming of modern medicine to a Mexican village--put into film and narrated by Burgess Merideth.
