Back Trailers From The Middle Border (Zane Grey's Copy), Garland, Hamlin
5 Garland, Hamlin Back Trailers From The Middle Border (Zane Grey's Copy)
New York MacMillan 1928 First Printing Cloth Fine Fine Constance Garland
First Printing. From the recently auctioned collection of M. B. Goldstone--this is author Zane Grey's personal copy in fine condition in an unclipped and fine dustjacket. Zane Grey's blind stamp is on two pages--the endpaper and the half title page. Signed by Garland on a tipped in paper "Cordially Yours, Hamlin Garland". Garland and Zane Grey were both in Hollywood at the time of this books release, although when Garland tried to arrange a meeting with Grey--he was more than once rebuffed. Grey was well known to avoid meetings with other writers (eventhough he listed Garland as one of the influential authors in his life)--a result of years of being insecure of his skills as a writer and sharp attacks from critics for his supposed lack of writing ability. They finally did meet quite by accident as they ended up on the same ship--and a meeting was arranged. This is Garland's final book in his "Border" Series, and probably the most interesting---retelling his meetings and relationships with many famous writers in England--including Kipling, Barrie, and Shaw---as well as his relationships with President Rooselvelt, William Dean Howells and many others. Garland won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography. This is a fine and like new copy--a solid black top stain--and with unblemished boards and unmarked interior. Only natural and very light age toning. The dustjacket is almost equally fine--with only one or two light chips and, eventhough the photograph shows the copy looking faded, there is absolutely no fading--it is the normal meant to be look of this dustjacket. A most collectable copy with a solid historical provenance.

The Trail Driver, Grey, Zane
6 Grey, Zane The Trail Driver
New York Grosset & Dunlap 1936 First Printing Hardcover Fine Fine
An absolutely superb copy of the early Grosset & Dunlap reprint of the original Harper's first printing. What makes this copy so desirable is the fact that it is fine and in a fine unclipped dustjacket with the original price of $.75 on the upper front flap. Solid orange topstain-as bright as the day it was published. The page edges are all clean--with absolutely no interior markings. A truly fine copy without flaws. The dustjacket is complete with only the barest and shallowest edgewear to the head and heel of the spine and one tip. For the Zane Grey collector--this would be a nice addition to the collection--although not a Harper's--it is just very scarce to fine either publication in this kind of condition. 302 PP with 4 pp of advertisements at the end.
