First Printing--stated first printing 1983. A stunning first print copy in fine unread condition--in an equally handsome unclipped dustjacket in fine condition. This copy is signed on an attached personal bookplate by the National Book Award author. It is not often that you can list a book that is technically flawless--but this copy is in remarkably new condition. Percy was an amazing author with an interesting background. He was a medical doctor before he was a novelist--who contracted tuberculosis while doing an autopsy. While recuperating in the Adirondacks he became influenced by Catholicism and existentialism. His lifelong best friend was author Shelby Foote. A famous story has Foote and Walker driving to meet Faulkner in Mississippi--and while Foote went up and talked with Faulkner on his porch--Walker stayed in the car--petrified with awe and fear. A very collectable copy.
