First Heritage Press Edition 1955. The Centennial edition. First published in 1855. Near fine in a very good slipcase. Only light edgewear and toning to the spine--otherwise tight, square and totally clean throughout. Marbled boards and burgundy cloth spine with gilt lettering. Slipcase is only lightly toned also. A very collectable copy in matching slipcase. Along the lines of Dickens, "The Warden" concerns not a prison official, but the official in charge of an "Alms" hospital in England. With character names similar to those used by Dickens, "John Bold", "Abraham Haphazard"--this is a novel with underlying themes popular in 19th century England.
