First Printing 1893. From the recently auctioned M. B. Goldstone collection- with his signature in pencil to the front free endpaper. Some of Goldstone's books are bringing record prices at auction (The Great Gatsby) This copy is a stunning custom rebound of the first printing in two-tone leather-- deep brown morocco with marbled boards and matching marbled endpapers and pastedowns. The spine is custom tooled with gilt lettering and decorations (three picture frames in three dimensional look---see digital pics) full gilt edges all around--in very fine gleaming condition. There is some edgewear to the bottom edge of the boards (two inches) where the marble paper has been reattached--but still shows as slight edgewear. Otherwise a totally clean interior with dozens of B&W drawings by De Grimm. Inside hinges are strong and tight. A stunning copy of the first printing--which had been originally produced in blue cloth. 694 pp. with one additional page of adv. First page of preface is slightly off centered. A very collectable copy from the original Goldstone collection--- one of the most recognized names in the book collecting world.
